If you've never used a konjac sponge, the first one feels a little strange. It shows up hard and dry, like a pebble on a string. Run it under warm water and a minute later it's soft, springy and kind of fun to squish. That's the whole trick, and it's why people tend to get hooked.
We make konjac sponges in a few versions. The charcoal ones are for skin that runs oily, gets sweaty, or just feels gunk up by the end of the day. There's a small one for your face and a bigger one for your body.
What's in them
Konjac is a root, and the sponge is made from it, so it's plant-based and biodegradable. For the charcoal version we add activated bamboo charcoal, which is used in skincare to pull out impurities and help with excess oil. That's the full ingredient list: konjac root and charcoal powder.
The face one
The Charcoal Konjac Facial Sponge is $10 and made for oily and combination skin. If your Tzone is shiny by lunchtime, start here. Use it with your cleanser or just water and work it over your face in small circles. It lifts away dirt and oil, buffs the skin smooth, and rinses out easily.
It has a string on it so you can hang it up to dry. One sponge lasts anywhere from one to three months depending on how often you use it, which makes ten dollars go pretty far.
The body one
The Charcoal Konjac Body Sponge is $12.99 and a lot bigger. We think of it as the post-workout sponge, or the one for after a long day in sunscreen, anything that leaves your back and chest feeling grimy. Wet it, add your body wash, scrub, rinse. It works on arms and legs too.
It's also an easy swap for a plastic loofah. The konjac is biodegradable, and you get the same one to three months out of it.
Making them last
Soak the sponge in warm water until it softens, then squeeze out the extra water gently instead of wringing it. Rinse it after you use it, and hang it by the string somewhere with some airflow. A sponge that never gets a chance to dry out won't last as long, so this part matters more than it sounds.
If charcoal isn't your thing
Charcoal is our pick for oily skin and active bodies. If your skin is on the sensitive side, the Original Konjac Facial Sponge and Original Konjac Body Sponge are gentler. If you'd like a bit more glow, there's the Turmeric Konjac Facial Sponge.
You can find all of them on our Konjac Sponges page. If you try one, tag us at @puresolbeauty.
We like seeing how people use them.
